Thigh Lift

What is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is done to remove excess skin and fat around the upper thighs, in order to make them appear slimmer, firmer and to improve a sagging appearance.

The thigh lift procedure consists of making an oval incision in the upper thigh, removing the skin and stitching the remaining skin back together

Who is it for?

The thigh lift operation is most commonly performed for women and men who require a reduction in the amount of excess skin and fat in the area following substantial weight loss in order to improve their body contours.

For patients following significant weight loss other adjunctive procedures such as liposuction may be required. A consultation regarding the risks and limitations of surgery will help you to choose a procedure that will meet with your expectations.

Considerations

The thigh lift operation is performed under general anaethesia and can take up to three hours. The operative time and your length of stay in hospital will be determined by the extent of surgery as discussed at the initial consultation although 1-2 days stay in the hospital is expected.

Following thigh lift surgery, you will need to wear a compression garment and the thighs may be very swollen and bruised for a number of days or even weeks. Movement will be very minimal for the first few days and stitches will need removing after 10-12 days.

You can normally return to work after 2-3 weeks and should avoid strenuous activity for 2-3 weeks.

Deep bruising and lumpiness as a result of surgery may take up to six months to disappear, especially if combined with liposuction.
