Buttock Rejuvenation and Brazilian Bum Lift

In our latest video, we take a look at the growing demand for buttock rejuvenation procedures; in particular, what has become known as the ‘Brazilian bum lift’. Contouring of the buttocks area can be achieved in a number of different ways. Commonly, these procedures can be completed either with one’s own tissue (from nearby areas) or other tissue. This other tissue is largely implants based, usually made from silicon.

Over the last five to ten years, there has been a rapid increase in the technique of harvesting fat from other areas of the body and injecting the fat into the buttocks. This particular version of buttock rejuvenation has been given the nickname Brazilian bum lift.

However, this technique is not without its risks; as it does carry a mortality rate of around 1 in 3,000. The reason for this is generally a result of fat entering the bloodstream and lodging in the lungs. Other risks include lumps, bumps and other kinds of irregularities. This tends to be a result of the fat being injected into the superficial plane of the buttock and not into the muscle. One important thing to understand is the fact that inserting mega volumes of fat is highly dangerous.

In terms of results from both buttock rejuvenation and Brazilian bum lifts, it is important to understand the perception of the bum in relation to the waist and the thighs. By using liposuction on these areas and injecting (in small amounts) the resulting fat into the buttock area, it can visually enhance the shape of both the buttock and the surrounding area.

Patients need to be aware of the fact that it may take more than one fat transfer to achieve the results they seek.
